Life in the bookshop!

This has gone up on the Guardian now, but in case you missed it – it more or less depicts what my relationship with books has always been like.

This is a ‘meaning of life’ Wednesday Special.

We look everywhere for the meaning of life. Sometimes it’s right in front of our nose. This (more or less) weekly series brings you the meaning of life in an easy, bite-sized nugget, every Sunday (more or less) (recently, less).

Dear Katy

I promised myself that I would resume patronising Waterstone’s after James Daunt took over but I’m afraid to say that I haven’t yet. There is an excellent Waterstone’s in Swansea but a return trip on the bus costs seven quid before you even start buying books. Contrast that with a quick cyber-visit to Amazon.co.uk and a few nifty clicks of the mouse. Do you happen to know how Waterstone’s are doing these days?

Best wishes from Simon

So that’s what the books get up to when no people are around! I always suspected that books had a life of their own. At least I am a short car ride away from Waterstone’s and HMV in Stevenage, where I buy items now and then. It is a good experience to pick up the book or CD in your own hands rather than have it all sent to you down the Amazon.
